Attendance

California law requires that all children ages 6-18 be enrolled in full-time education. Attending school helps students learn, build relationships, and develop social-emotional well-being. We encourage families to schedule medical and dental appointments after school when possible. Absences must be verified within five school days, otherwise will be considered unexcused.

At WGMS, we want all students to be successful. We believe that regular, punctual attendance is critical to school success. Please take a moment to read the Parent/Guardian Responsibilities and familiarize yourself with the district’s attendance and absences policies to avoid misunderstandings regarding attendance. If you have questions, please contact Allison Frisbie at 408-535-6277 ext 55211 . Please email all doctor’s notes to MaryAnn Ramirez.

Absence Verification Process

To report an absence, call the Attendance Hotline at 408-265-1412  or complete the Absence Reporting Form

All absences must be explained or verified by the parent/guardian, or a medical or professional person via letter, note, or fax within 5 days of the first day of absence. We do not excuse an absence after the 5-day period. If your student is enrolled in class at the high school (dual enrollment) the parent/guardian must report the absence to the high school as well as the middle school.

If there is a disagreement about an absence, it is the student's responsibility to provide evidence that he or she was in class.

Absence Tracking

Attendance is taken in every class, every day and entered into the Infinite Campus computer system by 3:30 p.m. each day. If your child has been absent from a class, you will receive an automated attendance notice at the end of the school day. We encourage parents/guardians to monitor their student's attendance in Infinite Campus by logging into Parent Portal. Parents/guardians will also receive daily attendance notices through ParentSquare if a student has one or more unexcused class absences.
